Meet Sunshine. She’s an 8-year-old cat with gorgeous, green eyes, but she suffered from a painful mouth disease. She was diagnosed with a chronic oral disease called stomatitis. Her owner was not able to pay for the care Sunshine needed and tearfully asked PAWS Chicago to give her medical treatment, then find her a loving home.
How PAWS Chicago Helped Sunshine
The veterinarians at PAWS Chicago developed a full treatment program designed specifically for Sunshine. They prescribed a special diet and medications. They also consulted with an outside dental specialist who recommended surgery. It took a year and more than $5,000, but Sunshine was placed in a foster home and nursed back to health. Finally, she was cleared for adoption.
PAWS Chicago offered to return Sunshine to her owner at no cost, and with ongoing medical support, but the owner declined. PAWS took responsibility for Sunshine to always be there for her with a lifetime guarantee should she ever need to be brought back to the shelter for any reason, at any time.
Sunshine loves to take naps, play in cardboard boxes, and get a chin rub. She likes an occasional snuggle with a human, but she’s not fond of getting belly rubs or being picked up. PAWS had to find just the right home for Sunshine, and thankfully, she was adopted after a few months and now has a permanent home.
